Survey for parents of peanut-allergic kids 6 months - 16 years.

Helpful Tips:

  • Laminate a picture of your child and attach it to the outside of his/her emergency kit for easy identification by school staff and caregivers.  Place picture on the front edge where it is visible when placed in a cabinet at school or daycare.
  • Role-play food allergy-related scenarios with your child so the child knows what to expect, what to say and when it's okay to say no to an adult while away from home.
  • Have the school nurse go through a drill with the food-allergic child so the child will be better prepared for what to expect in case an allergic reaction occurs at school.
Another idea for a school that has more than one child with food allergies or other chronic conditions:
  • Use a gallon-sized ziplock bag for the medications.  Place a color copy of the Emergency Treatment Plan with the child's picture in front of the medications so it's easily visible for quick identification.
