"I have read your article on Boston.com and was insulted at
your attitude on Peanut Allergies. My son has a severe peanut allergy both by ingestion and by touch and we work
very hard everyday to keep him safe and to help educate others.
"If you have not lived with this medical condition just imagine
that something you normally nourish your body with is now a poison that can be fatal if touched or ingested.
"Now imagine you are a child and are dependent on the adults in
your life to protect you and you may never be cured. Now imagine most of the adults in your life (school, church, community,
family) are ignorant and all have to be educated separately as to your condition. Your LIFE depends on it.
"Peanut allergies are more common because they are being DIAGNOSED.
I have talked with many parents who SUFFER from this allergy and they do not choose it, it chooses them!
"Other medical conditions are accepted and your article downplayed
the seriousness of both the mental and physical handicaps food allergies affect. I call it an invisible handicap
because it is VERY HARD to educate someone on a handicap they can't see.
"I would love to further educate you on any information you might
be receptive to so that you might write a new article."
