The 2007 FAAN Walk for Food Allergy

took place on Sept. 29th at

Shawnee Mission Park in Kansas City

Thank you so much to the sponsors & families that made the 1st-annual walk in our area a success! There were close to 400 registered walkers, and we raised approximately $50K...not bad for our first year!

FAAN Update

The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Act of 2005 (H.R. 4063)
This act calls on the federal government to develop a model policy, to be used on a voluntary basis, for managing the risk of food allergy and anaphylaxis in schools. The national policy would then be made available to local educational agencies (such as local school boards) and other interested individuals (i.e., school principals, school nurses, teachers, etc.). H.R. 4063 was introduced by Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) on October 17, 2005, during FAAN's Kids' Congress.

Write your Representative in Congress to encourage him or her to sign on as a cosponsor to H.R. 4063, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Management Act of 2005.

Important Information on Milk Allergy
From Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network's (FAAN's) April/May 2004 newsletter:

There's an important article on Pareve-Labeled (Kosher) Products on page 9 that all of you who live with milk allergy should read.  Here's a quote from the article:

"The products are considered milk-free according to religious specifications...they may nevertheless contain enough milk protein to cause an allergic reaction in those with milk allergy.  Milk-allergic reactions to food products labeled as "pareve" continue to be reported, particularly around Easter and Passover.  FAAN members are reminded not to rely on kosher pareve labeling for identification of milk-free foods."

If you aren't a member of FAAN but would like a sample copy of their newsletter, you may e-mail them your name, address and phone number (they don't share your personal info with anyone) to samples@foodallergy.org
