Kansas City Royals & Kauffman Stadium Are Peanut-Friendly!

by Erin, a Kansas City Mom

For what's it's worth since the season is over, I have a new respect for the Royals' or at least Kauffman Stadium.

One Friday night, close to the end of the season, my husband and I packed up the kids and headed out to the 'K' for a baseball game. Fully aware that we would have to sit WAY high in the upper deck [risking nose bleeds] to avoid peanuts.

When we got to the bag check point, I was asked what was in my zip lock bag. I explained that it was an emergency kit as my son had a peanut allergy. The usher informed me that he had just that week that Kauffman stadium will provide peanut-free seating upon request. When I asked how to go about doing this, none of the other ushers had heard of this and guided me to Guest Services.

When we arrived at Guest Services and explained that we were requesting peanut-free seating, they were MORE than accomodating. The asked how many rows we would need in order to feel 'safe' and let us know that if there were any other peanut-free requestors, they would be joining us. In exchange for the tickets we had, we were presented with tickets for 4 surrounding rows and the ushers and supervisors of the section were all notified that we were coming and the issue at hand. The ushers then asked the peanut vendors to by-pass our section and we were asked to notify the ushers of anyone who just 'showed up' to sit in the section, as they would be asked to leave.

Okay, so it was the end of the season and the Royals' didn't do too well, but it didn't matter, we had GREAT seats on the first base line, lower level and a great family outting.

We'll definitely go back to the "K" in 2007!
